Intro To First Aid

First aid is a secondary skill that any character can learn (but not unlearn since it doesn’t take up a primary skill slot). It’s the most useful of the secondary skills (cooking, fishing, first aid) for combat and leveling purposes, but not for making gold. First aid is also the easiest secondary skill to advance in.

First aid is used to make two things:

  1. Bandages (can be used in combat, as opposed to food, to quickly restore some health)
  2. Anti-venoms (cure poisons)

The further you advance in skill, the better bandages and anti-venoms will become available to you. The act of applying bandages is channeled, so if you take any damage (even from DoTs) it will cancel the remaining healing. Therefore, try to apply bandages only when you are safe from damage, though in emergencies it’s sometimes worth getting a tick or two of healing out of a bandage even if it will cancel after that.

You receive a 60 second debuff after using a bandage, which prevents any more bandages from being used on you during that time.

First Aid 1-375 Guide

Skilling up first aid is very easy. I recommend you learn it early and advance in skill as you level, because bandages are very useful to minimize downtime between fights and can often save your life. All cloth you need to make bandages comes from humanoids of progressively higher levels, or you can always buy it at the auction house.

  1. Start by learning apprentice first aid, which will teach you how to make linen bandages. Then return to the trainer to learn better bandages as you advance in skill.
  2. To get past 150 you need Expert First Aid - Under Wraps. Alliance can buy it in Arathi Highlands while Horde buys it in Dustwallow Marsh.
  3. Once you’ve learnt silk bandage, you need to get manuals to learn heavy silk bandage and mageweave bandage. Look in the table below for vendors for these items.
  4. Once at skill 225 and level 35 you can do the Triage quest that rewards artisan first aid which allows a skill level of 300.  The quest is really simple, just hotkey the provided bandages and help the most wounded patients first and stand in the middle of the room so you can reach everyone without moving.
  5. As you continue to advance in skill you can return to the Triage NPC and he’ll teach you heavy mageweave bandage, runecloth bandage and heavy runecloth bandage at skill 240, 260, and 290 respectively, free of charge.
  6. For strong and powerful anti-venom, check the table below.
  7. If you have The Burning Crusade, you can train Master First Aid, which allows a First Aid skill up to 375, as well as Netherweave Bandage and Heavy Netherweave Bandage. They are all available from books. Horde buys them from Aresella in Hellfire Peninsula, while Alliance buys them from Burko in Hellfire Peninsula.
  8. To learn Netherweave Bandage you need 330 skill which is easiest to get by creating a lot of Heavy Runecloth Bandages.
