Guide last updated: Updated for patch 2.4
Review last updated: 2008-04-19
Spugnort’s Outland Instance Keying & Reputation Guide (that’s a mouthful) is a guide, the way I see it, for players that want to increase their reputation with various Burning Crusade factions.
Why would you want that?
For starters, getting access to heroic difficulty dungeons (harder version of instances where drops are better) requires honored reputation with their corresponding factions. This guide will show you how to do that. Secondly, many players will want to aim for revered or exalted with certain factions, as that unlocks access to various crafting recipes and rare & epic items and enchants.
If you want your character to be the best it can be, in PvP & PvE, you will need to up your reputation with some factions. Doing that will require a combination of questing, grinding (sometimes), and doing instance runs. So if you’re only interested in PvP or solo play, this isn’t the guide for you. Otherwise, read on.
In patch 2.4 some attunements were lifted, namely the Hyjal, Black Temple and Karazhan ones (you can enter KZ as long as someone else opens the gate with the key). So as not to make this guide obsolete, the authors added loads of content on daily quests and how to gain exalted with all Outland factions. A very nice service to existing customers.
You’ll also learn how to gain the special titles for attunements, such as "The Hand of A’dal", even though the attunements are not required anymore.
I find that this guide delivers on its promises, except I found nothing in it about PvP daily quests, cooking daily quests or fishing daily quests. I think that must have been a mistake on their part to put that on the sales page.
Anyway, the guide itself is detailed and easy to follow. There are numerous links to rewards and quests, and clear instructions.
One problem, though, with any reputation guide (not just this one) is that the best way to gain rep is often to save quests until you hit revered, because then you stop getting reputation from normal dungeons runs. But while leveling up, you will most likely unknowingly do a bunch of the quests you should save for later, so it will be harder to get to exalted in the end. There is really no easy way around that unfortunately.
But as a whole, this guide will be very helpful to you, and the price is quite low as well (but they have talked about raising it so you may want to get it asap).
On another note, they include a printable guide, but it was not updated at the time of this writing.
Bottom line: A good, solid guide if you’re into doing instances and getting the best enchants and crafting recipes, and want your character to be the best it can be.
