Spugnort’s Gold Guide is written by the good people over at Spugnort’s World, who have proven to write quality, up-to-date guides.
Lately, they have added a ton of gold making strategies to the guide. Regrettably, the guide doesn’t exist in printable format yet so it’s very hard for me to estimate how many pages there are, but it’s A LOT.
While it used to be mostly a level 70 gold guide, the improved section called "Making Gold While You Level" offer some great strategies to make money for your mounts, gear and skills. Not too many tips in that chapter, but all you really need are a handful of strong ones, and they are explained in depth which is great for beginners.
The guide is divided into 12 sections. Instead of listing the whole table of contents, the way I see it, the guide can be divided into sections like this:
- Auction House strategies
- Making gold while you level
- Class specific gold making strategies
- Profession specific gold strategies
- Herb, ore and leather farming tips
- Reputation and other farming tips
- Seasonal Events
- Vendor Gold Making
- Daily Quests
The AH strategies are good, no question about it. They offer a slightly different take on trading the AH than the other guides I’ve seen. But the strategies are basically the same.
The class specific strategies are great, but there is some redundancy and duplicate content here. They are all centered around level 70 and while some classes do indeed have unique gold making strategies, others do not and are just given a few suitable grinding locations in Outlands. Don’t get me wrong, all classes are covered but more variation would have been fun here.
However, the awesome part about the class strategies is the amount of detail put into it. You’ll find maps, pictures, explanations of what items to collect and vendor or put on the auction house, as well as talent builds to use for farming and even which specific spells and abilities to use. Good stuff!
Most of the profession tips are geared towards the endgame. Which is a good thing, since it means they are up to date. There are a handful of tips on average for every profession, and they are pretty detailed. And the gathering profession tips come with pictures of good farming routes. Cooking and fishing tips have been added, which should be welcomed by all players since everyone can have those profs.
Another cool chapter was the vendor gold making one. Many gold guides have list of items to buy from vendors and resell expensively on the AH, but this guide sorts them by level. Say you’re a level 36 horde… you’d just have to look at the 30-40 level horde bracket for items to buy, which will list stuff in zones you’ll be leveling in. Very convenient.
The daily quest chapter is a long one and details (as far as I could tell) every single daily quest in WoW right now (updated for patch 2.4). Daily quests are a guaranteed source of gold, and I have a few favorites myself that I try to do. Here you’ll find walkthroughs to them, as well as pre-requisite quests you must do.
All in all, I really like this guide and I try to read the updates as soon as they become available. The neatest part is the amount of detail put into it, with maps, pictures and in-depth tips. You’ll be making a lot of gold with this guide. Since it’s more geared towards level 70s, you will benefit even more from it if you’re already there.
In my experience Spugnort’s World also offer timely updates which is a big plus.
I’d say this guide actually deserves 9/10 if you’re level 70. Otherwise 8/10.
