Killer Guides’ Warrior Guide
- 7/10

Guide last updated: March 2008
Review last updated: 2008-03-06

Killer Guides’ Warrior Guide has FINALLY been updated for The Burning Crusade and a lot of other patches. The last update before this one was in September 2005, and not updating it for that long isn’t the best service to existing customers. Anyhow, let’s take a look at this new version.

It comes in a 150 page ebook, covering:

  • The basics - choosing a race, understanding statistics and weapon types and such.
  • A list of all skills and what level you get them
  • A discussion of most skills and how and when to use them
  • A discussion of all talents
  • Several ready made talent builds for various purposes (tanking, soloing, PvP)
  • Where to find desirable gear, as well as gems and enchants to aim for
  • Professions
  • Gameplay - how to do instances, how to tank, how to solo, how to PvP vs. any class, how to do battlegrounds
  • Gold making tips
  • Warrior quests

Seems like a lot of information, and it is. But how good is it?

Well, I checked a lot of it for accuracy and most things (spells, talents, formulas) are correct, but not all. There are still some remains from the old guide left, such as references to honor ranks (removed since 2006). But overall that part was ok.

The discussions throughout the guide are pretty good, but I would have liked to see some more authoritative advice. As it is now, the author talks about the pros and cons of a particular ability or talent, but often fails to give a specific recommendation in the end. Like choosing a race, for example. You don’t get the specific advice to choose a certain race, just a summary of the weaknesses and strengths of each race.

Also in the gameplay chapters, more specific tips would have been useful. Like spelling out exactly which abilities to use when tanking, in what order, and such. The guide tells you what to do, but not always how to do it.

There are good things about this guide too. I think the professions chapter, the basics, the talents and gear chapters were above average. It’s a bit thin on the 1-60 gear section though, but once you get to 70 there is a big list to pick from so you can have something to strive for in the end game.

The gold tips, likewise, are stronger the higher level you get.

As for the warrior quests, only a few are addressed but they are the important ones (for defensive stance and berserker stance), so I feel that chapter is good enough.

In the end, if you’re new to the warrior class I think this will be a good help. If you’re already level 70, it might not help you too much.

I think it’s a good guide, it just could have been a little more specific and clear in some places. 7/10
