Killer Guides’ Warlock Guide
 8/10

Guide last updated: April 2008
Review last updated: 2008-04-19

Killer Guides’ Warlock Guide was a long guide to review, at about 200 pages. As of this writing it’s fully updated for WoW patch 2.4 , and I’ve checked facts and figures for accuracy and it’s close to 100% (except the racial abilities that were a bit off, so you may want to check up on those before you choose a race).

The warlock is one of the most powerful classes in WoW at the moment, being one of the best in high rated 2vs2 arenas and very strong in solo as well as group PvE. But it does require more skill than it might look like, and the tips in this guide will help you to achieve the potential inherent in the class.

The first half of the guide covers purely Warlock related strategies, while the second half is a mix of generic info and warlock tips. Examples of the "generic" info are the chapters on leveling, making gold, instances and attunements to some raid instances (karazhan and onyxia).

There are also quite a few (40 or so) pages with tables describing high level armor sets as well as which spells will become available to you to train at each level. Therefore, the number of pages covering specifically the warlock is about 125.

You’ll get walkthroughs to all the important warlock stuff such as:

  • Selecting race
  • Doing the quests to get your various pets
  • How to get your epic mount (it involves a string of quests, and the tips in the guide can save you 250 gold for some stuff you need too)
  • Which stats to focus on, as well as some gear you can have crafted (or craft yourself) while leveling
  • The all important section on solo and group gameplay, including how to use each of your many pets solo and in instances and the sequence of abilities to use. (This is where you learn "how to play")
  • Detailed comments on all talents available to the warlock
  • Several sample talent builds
  • A chapter on collecting gold
  • A long chapter on leveling, including questing AND grinding areas for alliance and horde, right up to level 70
  • A list of all instances that are available (a nice addition, but not really anything that has to do with the warlock)
  • Detailed 1vs1 PvP strategies, as well as mass PvP strategies, including how to use your pets in most PvP fights.
  • There are also some addon tips throughout the guide

The rest of the guide lists high level armor sets you may want to collect, and gives a few tips on where they drop, and a list of all spells and abilities you can train and at what level.

This is a good guide, and a big plus is the fact that it’s fully updated for the 2.4 patch. What detracts is the advice on talent builds that doesn’t tell you exactly what to choose in all situations. As a newbie warlock it would’ve been better with only ONE leveling build (in my opinion) and advice on how to place every single talent point (now you’ll sometimes be adviced to place 0-1 points in a certain talent for example, leaving some decisions up to you).

The quest walkthroughs could’ve used some coordinates and links in my opinion, and I would also have wanted to see a chapter on all the abilities and when to use them to rate this guide a 10.

I feel this guide will really be a help to most up and coming warlocks, and you’ll find yourself referring back to it over and over again to absorb all the good information in it.
