Killer Guides' Warlock Guide

Killer Guides’ Warlock Guide
 9/10

Guide last updated: Updated for WotLK patch 3.3.3
Review last updated: April 13, 2010
Guide suitable for: Beginner - advanced players

The Warlock Guide from Killer Guides is a detailed ebook teaching you how to master the warlock, its abilities and pets.

When I say detailed I’m not exaggerating; the current version is 251 pages long. The recent update added more than a few tips to the guide and also divided the guide into more logical sections. PvE and PvP strategies are now separated so it’s a lot easier to find talent builds, gameplay tips and more depending on your focus.

As mentioned, the two biggest sections are PvE and PvP. They are both quite comprehensive, detailing gameplay tips, gear to strive for, gems, enchant, glyphs, buffs etc. etc. The PvP chapter takes an in-depth look at 1v1 strategies vs. all other classes including Death Knights. Good stuff!

There’s a huge chapter on pets as well, going through each pet and how to use it solo, in groups and in PvP, and how to obtain them.

Every talent has also received a paragraph of comments as well as a rating — from 1 to 5 — for usefulness. Pretty neat when you’re going to make your own talent builds. Not that you need to if you don’t want to, since several are included for any purpose.

Another thing that I actually wanted to see in this guide, but that was lacking in earlier versions, is the list of all spells and abilities available to the warlock with insightful comments. Here you can pick up some uses you may have overlooked for your abilities.

Then there are a few non-warlock-specific chapters too, like one on gold, one on leveling and one on instances. They’re pretty minimalistic, but the way I see it they go beyond the scope of a class guide anyway, so it doesn’t detract. I see them more as bonus chapters.

If you’re leveling your warlock, or hit level 80 and feel you need some guidance, I highly recommend this guide. There is no way you’re going to read through it and not learn a ton of strategies that you can put to use immediately. I think 95% of warlocks will find this guide to be a great help. Only advanced and hardcore players may not.

Updates are free for life, and this guide has received several updates since 2007. The author, Dugas, is the same guy who writes Killer Guides’ Death Knight Guide that I also think is great.

If I had to complain…

Not much to complain about. Great guide, I wish all class guides were like this.

Conclusion

I don’t think you’ll find a better warlock guide than this. Unless you’re a hardcore level 80 warlock already, you should find the tips immensely useful.
