Killer Guides’ World of Warcraft Priest Guide is a 120 page ebook covering various strategies for mastering the Priest in WoW.

The guide is almost 100% updated for Cataclysm, although there are a few outdated tips, but not very many. The author knows what he’s talking about and I agree with most advice in the guide.

As I said, this guide is mostly useful to beginner and intermediate priests. If you’re already raiding at level 85 or doing high-end arena, you won’t find that many tips here. For everyone else, this guide will shorten your learning curve substantially.

As a priest, you’ll often be responsible for healing in groups and raids and you'll have a lot of responsibility. Knowing which ability to use at every time is crucial. That’s why I think the chapter on priest spells is particularly useful. It describes every spell available to you and how and when to use it.

The other class defining chapter on talents is equally detailed and will show you the purpose of each talent. You’re also getting premade talent builds for any aspect of the game; raiding, leveling, PvP and so on. And you'll also learn which glyphs that go well with each build. It’s important to get this right because it greatly affects your efficiency as a priest.

A big plus is how the guide shows you how to place every single talent point up to level 85 while leveling. And the guide also goes through which new abilities that come available for each level range, and how that affects your gameplay. Great for new players as it takes all the guesswork out.

Because this guide covers so many things, I’m not gonna comment on them all. Let’s just say that it takes you by the hand and teaches you what you need to know from the very basics of the priest, how to get it up to 85, and become a great healer or damage dealer that will be added to many people’s friends lists, and invited to many groups.

It does this by teaching you (among other things):

• The right race to choose
• How to PvP vs any other class
• Lots of specific gear to collect at level 85
• Powerful combinations of trade skills for priests
• General leveling and gold tips
• Addons and macros for priests
• When and why to use any priest spell

There was also the mandatory sections on gameplay strategies. The solo strategies are very detailed, the group strategies are okay, and the PvP tips could’ve been more specific, in my opinion.

If I had to complain…

Don’t expect too much from the leveling and gold tips; they’re pretty minimalistic. But keep in mind that this is a priest guide, and not a gold and leveling guide, so it should be no surprise. Something of questionable value was the 25 or so pages dedicated to "areas of interest" and instances. Basically, lists of zones and instances and some minimal descriptions on them. But there are enough valuable tips in the rest of the pages to make up for that and, who knows, you might find those chapters much more useful than I did.

Conclusion

Overall I felt this guide will be very helpful to a priest. Not only will it show you how to make your character strong with the right gear, glyphs and talents; it will also make the player behind the character — that’s you — capable of meeting the challenges and excitements that await you as a priest. Definitely worth checking out.
