Killer Guides’ Death Knight Guide is a 147 page ebook dedicated to mastering the Death Knight. It also includes separate, detailed horde and alliance quest-based leveling guides for levels 55-80.

When Blizzard announced the Death Knight hero class they said it was going to be more challenging to play than other classes which, in many people’s opinion, is true. As a hybrid tank/DPS class, you’ll have to master more gameplay strategies than other pure classes, and if you’ve never played a melee class, let alone a tank, then it can be challenging.

How do you tank a boss? How do you do maximum DPS in instances? Exactly which rotations (sequence of abilities) should you use? What gear is good for your various roles? And what talents? How do you win in PvP? All of these questions and many more are answered in this guide.

In my opinion, this is how a class guide should be. It doesn’t have any info on making gold, or professions, and the leveling guides are separate ebooks. That means that all the 128 pages are dedicated to mastering the Death Knight class itself.

Since this is a brand new guide for WotLK, it’s completely up to date with the new level cap and new patches. No outdated info at all.

A lot of the guide is dedicated to finding gear. Since you’re a melee class, that’s very important. Not only does it give you suggestions for specific gear, you’ll also learn which stats and modifiers to focus on whether you’re tanking, DPS’ing or PvP’ing, and how high to aim for in each stat. It also goes beyond that and suggests enchants, glyphs, gems and consumables to really maximize your effectiveness.

The gameplay tactics are there too, of course. You’ll learn how to tank, DPS and PvP. However, the PvP section lacks specific tactics vs other classes. You’ll still learn which abilities to focus on, your strengths and weaknesses, gear and so on.

I have to mention the links chapter too, full with links to useful WoW sites in general, and DK sites in particular. The last chapter is one I really liked as well: Skill & Spell listing with comments. It’s great to have a pro player commenting on all the abilities available to your class so you know when to use them.

If I had to complain…

The PvP section is lacking specific tactics vs other classes, as well as battleground specific tips.

Conclusion

A great guide to mastering the Death Knight. Don’t forget the 55-80 leveling guide that is included as well. This guide should be useful to most players, except the minority of hardcore players.
