Edge WoW Addon – Review
Editor’s rating: (4.2 of 5)
Addon last updated: Updated for Legion (latest expansion)
Edge is a WoW addon that helps you optimize your character to make it ideal for various types of gameplay, such as raiding, soloing, PvP, and leveling.
It is made by Dynasty Addons, a company specializing in WoW addons/guides with tens of thousands of customers since 2008.
With Edge, they claim to have made an addon that is suitable for ANY WoW player.
Does it deliver on that promise?
Is there a need for Edge?
The first thing to understand is the need for customizing your character based on what you want to do. ALL good players do this. If you don’t take the time to optimize your character for the situation you’re in, you’ll never be good. Period.
However, it is quite difficult to keep up with all the different talents, options, and rotations (what abilities to use and their sequence), especially since the game is changing all the time with new patches and expansions. If you play multiple classes, it gets that much harder.
Consider that raiding, farming/grinding, leveling, and PvP typically require different talents, optimizations and rotations, and you can see how it’s a headache to keep up with it all.
That’s where Edge comes in.
It will load right into the game and display some new windows that will help you optimize your character. Simply tell Edge what you want to do, such as level faster, and it will instruct you on what talents to get, as well as how to play your character (what abilities to use, when to use them, and so on)
It goes without saying that this is tremedously helpful.
Edge works for
- all classes
- all specs
- almost all imaginable situations (leveling, PvP, raiding, solo play)
One thing to keep in mind is that you will get the most benefit out of Edge if you play 2 or more classes. If you just play the same class and role (e.g. healer, tank, DPS) all the time, you’ve probably mastered that one already. So Edge is ideal if you like to switch between at least 2 classes.
My experience with Edge
I’ve personally tested Edge on DPS classes, tanks and healers, and found it to be beneficial in all cases. Of course, it takes a little while to get used to each recommendation that Edge offers, but I think it’s better to play like a noob for a few hours, than for life.
Another thing I like about Edge is that it’s intuitive; it’s easy to figure out. It attaches nicely to the windows where you expect to see it. For example, when you look at your talents, you will see a new little button there that will bring up the Edge window that advises you on what talents to pick.
It’s also easy to install even if you’ve never used any addon before, thanks to Dynasty Addons’ auto-installer. The auto-installer also makes sure the addon is always up to date.
As for customer support, I can’t tell you much about that for Edge, to be honest, because I’ve never had to use it. I did, however, send them a question by email just to test how long it would take to get a reply, and I was impressed that I got an answer back after 7 hours on a Sunday.
|One-time payment, lifetime upgrades. You get all updates and upgrades for free, for new patches and even new expansion packs. This is HUGE and almost no one else offers this. This will save you A TON of money if you’re going to play WoW for a long time. Other companies charge money for upgrades for new expansions etc.|
Overall, I think Edge delivers on its promises. You can either choose to customize its recommendations, or just go with Edge’s original ones, which are usually fine. Edge is user-friendly and fast to set up, even if you’ve never used an addon before.
Of course, it’s impossible for me to test out Edge’s recommendations for every single class and spec but, based on my experience, I think the advice is on point. I think it’s well worth checking out:
