I used to really recommend Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide. However, some things have come to my attention which make me question its value…

You see the main benefit of this guide over other gold guides used to be the personal coaching (by email) that was included with Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide.

As it turns out though, Derek was unreliable when it came to answering emails for his customers. And now he has removed the personal coaching all together. I know that he knows his stuff, he has helped me. And his guide is decent in itself. But it costs more than many others, and without the coaching it is really not better. So keep this in mind when you read the rest of my review below.

I credit Derek’s guide for making me expand the boundaries of my Auction House trading. I made 3500+ gold in 4 weeks from ONLY using SOME of his Auction House strategies, which is like 10 times more than I earned before because I was limiting myself so much. True, I started with 1600 g on my AH character, but Derek’s guide will actually show you how to start making serious gold at the AH even if you’re only level 5-10.

Let’s take a quick look at the contents of Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide:

  • A beginner’s guide (Here’s where you learn the simple but essential strategies that the rest of the tips revolve around, such as how to check the "fair" AH price of an item so you don’t sell yourself short)
  • Auction House guide (Probably the most detailed and useful AH guide I’ve read. It motivated me to turn 1600 into 5100 in four weeks, "working" VERY part-time and only using some of the tips)
  • General Grinding guide (A collection of gold making tips for all levels. On the last page is a link to a special unadvertised 1-70 gold grinding guide with maps)
  • Profession guide (Covers herbalism, mining, skinning, tailoring, jewelcrafting and alchemy, but not engineering, blacksmithing, cooking and leatherworking. And, in my opinion, it misses some good gold making tips)
  • Bonus Fishing guide (It could have been better, but it does give some low, mid and high level fishing tips.)
  • Bonus Professions Leveling guide (1-300 guides for the primary professions except leatherworking, but only 300-375 for tailoring, enchanting and engineering.)

Bottom line: While this guide offers some decent tips that can make you a lot of gold, it is not as good as the higher rated gold guides seen here.

The bonuses (fishing and profession leveling) are weak, and the price is a bit higher than other gold guides. It doesn’t have all the 60-70 grinding spots, and the profession guides could use some improvement as well.

If he still had the coaching, I would rate it higher because 1 on 1 help can be very valuable. But since he doesn’t anymore, I can only give this guide 6/10. Take a look at the other gold making guides instead.
