10 000 gold on a level 4 character

Tuesday,October 30th, 2007

Today is a special day.

The day that my bank character has 10.000 gold in cash. Man, it feels good to just see it lying there in the bag. It’s even better to shove it in a trade window and see the reactions.

Personally I don’t care too much about the best gear, enchants, stuff like that… so I’m just gonna let it sit in my bags while I accumulate more and more.

One thing I like doing, however, is giving away some gold to lowbies. Whenever I suspect a lowbie is also a beginner, as opposed to an alt, I ask them if they want some gold. It’s amazing how giving away 10 gold can really make someone’s day.

How did I earn all this gold?

Well, I started with 1600 gold farmed by my level 70 hunter. Then I read Derek’s Pathway to 27.000 gold and got inspired to trade the auction house more aggressively. I simply buy stuff that people have listed too cheap, and put it back at a higher price.

I’ve always known about auctioneer and picked up the occasional steal from the auction house that way, but this time I started being more systematic and pushed the limits. I began to take some risks and buy much of the stuff I never bothered with before: low-level green gear and schematics, twink items, large stacks of enchanting mats and potions that I split up, expensive bind-on-equip epics… stuff like that.

Of the original 1600 gold I invested 300 in items. And that got the ball rolling. Since then I’ve made about 100 gold each day I’ve traded the auction house, on average. I know you can make more, but 100 gold per day adds up to 10 000 if you just keep doing it. And it doesn’t take long, either. Maybe 20-30 minutes per day.

Best part: You can do it at ANY level. Level 1, 4, 20, 70, whatever. Of course, it gets better the lower level you are. A high level character can earn a lot of gold from questing and grinding, but a lowbie can’t. So it’s the ideal way to make tons of gold when you’re starting out.

Where did I learn all the ins and outs of AH trading?

Originally from the Cash Creating Guide. But the same information is available in Valkor’s Gold Making Guide and Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide. I don’t recommend the last one anymore, since there have been some problems with it. Valkor’s guide is probably the best choice for most players.

The thing that really made a difference though was seeing how much gold can be made this way. It made me go outside my comfort zone and experiment. Sometimes I lost, but most of the time I earned huge piles of gold.

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with it, but I plan on dressing up like Santa and giving away gift-wrapped items for a total of 2000 gold on Christmas to random people on the server. Someone did that last year on another server I’m on, and I still remember it.

Now it’s your turn!

How would having 10 000 gold, or even 1 000 or 100 (which is damn easy to get this way) change your life? Never worry about where the money for your mounts is gonna come from… make a twink in the baddest gear and own the battlegrounds… buy those nice blue items from the auction house and enjoy getting inspected and complimented for your gear.

Remember, you can learn to do this from the Cash Creating Guide or Valkor’s Gold Making Guide.

Good luck.

Is buying gold too expensive?

Wednesday,March 28th, 2007

I was surfing the web today looking at the real-world prices of WoW gold, and I noticed something curious. 2 things actually.

  1. The actual gold prices at various vendors
  2. The differences in pricing between US and EU

Since I’ve never bought gold myself (never had the need thanks to the Cash Creating Guide) it was a revelation just to look at the prices.

Apparently 1000 g seems to cost $100-$200 on US servers at most vendors, with prices centered around $150. On European servers, you can get 1000 g for about $30-60 at most vendors.

Prices will also vary considerably depending on which server you are on, and to some degree depending on your team (horde or alliance).

Why the difference?

150-200+ gold per hour farming

Monday,February 5th, 2007

I decided to do a little grinding now that I’m level 70 and, not knowing where to go, I referenced the Cash Creating Guide. I picked one location from the Burning Crusade part, flew there (it’s only accessible with flying mount), set my timer for one hour and started grinding.

Here’s what I ended up with:

Gray items worth 16 g

1 green item supposedly worth 30 g

53 white items (those are the primary ones you are farming for here) worth 53 * 3 = 159 gold.

Total earnings: 205 g

Libram Profits Part 2

Friday,September 22nd, 2006

Guess what?

I’m back in business with a new, working graphics card. First thing I did was of course to login to WoW to see how everything was going. I was just browsing the auction house when I see, that’s right, another Libram of Resilience for the reasonable price of 4 g 92 s and an expiration time of less than 30 minutes.

To put it short, I’m now the owner of a new Libram of Resilience worth about 70 g on my server. I’ll try to sell it during the weekend, for a profit of at least 60 g. I’m using bonus guide #2 that comes with The World of Warcraft Cash Creating Guide to find these deals. I don’t think Luke is exaggerating when he says it has made him more than 1000 g.

Personally I don’t bother with deals that don’t make me at least several easy gold. I’m just too lazy and it’s too much work when there are regular opportunities to make 10-20-30 even 100 g on one item. I hope you join me, cuz it’s great fun to make gold this way, and the stories you can tell…

Libram of Resilience Profits

Sunday,September 17th, 2006

While browsing the auction house around noon today, with the intention of finding cheap items to resell expensively, I suddenly laid eyes on a Libram of Resilience, worth about 70+ g depending on your server, with a buyout price of only 2 g! The seller must have had no clue about its value. So I picked it up quickly before anyone else saw it, intent on reselling it for a huge profit.

Since they are unique you can only have one in your inventory at a time (also counting the bank, but not the mailbox or the AH), so I wanted to sell it fast.

Instead of putting it in the AH, I first tried selling it in the trade channel. After rejecting some ridiculous offers, one guy seemed seriously interested. After some haggling we settled on 65 g. Maybe I could have gotten 70 or even 80 at the AH. But who cares? I made 63 g with almost no effort.

This wasn’t the only time I’ve had the opportunity to do so, either. (more…)

58.88 g / hour

Saturday,September 9th, 2006

I decided to be a little more scientific and actually measure how much gold I could make in an hour in the grinding area I referred to in the post entitled Level 60 gold grinding.

I made a note of the number of potions, amount of gold, and runecloth I had, before I set my timer for one hour and started grinding away. Here are the results:

Coin: 5.93 g
61 runecloth: 6.1 g
1 Major Healing Potion: 0.80 g
2 Major Mana Potions: 4.5 g
25 items: 26.30 g (after AH fees)
18 other items: 14.4 g (after AH fees, at my regular price)
One reagent: 0.2 g
One green item: 0.65 g (sold to vendor)

Total: 58.88 g.

Even accounting for some relisting that I might have to do, I’m easily making over 50 g per hour. Again, the area is described on pages 11 and 12 of The World Of Warcraft Cash Creating Guide. Read the full review here.

Level 60 gold grinding

Friday,September 8th, 2006

Wow!

I have a new preferred gold grinding area. This one owns. Here’s why:

First and foremost, these mobs drop valuable items frequently. I farmed this place for about four hours today and I earned at least 150 gold. But here’s the kicker: I sold the loot too cheap! Several times my stacks were bought out within minutes of me placing them at the AH, even as I increased the price every time. They’re obviously popular and easy to sell.

Secondly, it’s near a town and a grave yard. This is good if you get ganked (if you’re on a PvP server obviously), or anytime you need to fly to a major city to sell your loot.

Thirdly, the mobs are easy to kill (for a level 60 character). There are different locations where you can choose which mobs you want to fight; casters, ranged attackers, or meleers.

Personally, I prefer the casters and meleers. I also got several major mana potions that I sell for 2.25-2.75 g a piece, some vendor trash, lots of coin (probably 12-15 g just in coin), a lot of runecloth (10 stacks or so), and some major healing potions.

Easy World of Warcraft Gold (even at low levels)

Thursday,September 7th, 2006

The last few days I’ve been testing an incredibly easy way to make gold in WoW. It’s so simple, and it works because people are either uninformed or lazy - or both. Just by applying this method regularly, any player can make substantial extra gold, with hardly any effort or extra time.

"What is it?", I hear you asking. It’s simply this: Buy certain items from vendors and resell them in the trade channel or at the auction house for HUGE profits.

I’m still amazed at how well this works. I mean, everyone has acccess to these vendors, yet they don’t do it because they don’t have the knowledge.

You can pick up certain items for 15-50 silver and immediately turn them around at the AH for 1.5-5 g or more! You can even undercut the competition. You don’t have to be greedy and squeeze out every last bit of profit, not when you’ve bought it so cheaply. I’ve bought stuff for 2 g and sold it fast for 12 g, over and over again. When you find such an item, you want to stick to it because it’s a proven seller.
