10 000 gold on a level 4 character
Tuesday,October 30th, 2007
Today is a special day.
The day that my bank character has 10.000 gold in cash. Man, it feels good to just see it lying there in the bag. It’s even better to shove it in a trade window and see the reactions.
Personally I don’t care too much about the best gear, enchants, stuff like that… so I’m just gonna let it sit in my bags while I accumulate more and more.
One thing I like doing, however, is giving away some gold to lowbies. Whenever I suspect a lowbie is also a beginner, as opposed to an alt, I ask them if they want some gold. It’s amazing how giving away 10 gold can really make someone’s day.
How did I earn all this gold?
Well, I started with 1600 gold farmed by my level 70 hunter. Then I read Derek’s Pathway to 27.000 gold and got inspired to trade the auction house more aggressively. I simply buy stuff that people have listed too cheap, and put it back at a higher price.
I’ve always known about auctioneer and picked up the occasional steal from the auction house that way, but this time I started being more systematic and pushed the limits. I began to take some risks and buy much of the stuff I never bothered with before: low-level green gear and schematics, twink items, large stacks of enchanting mats and potions that I split up, expensive bind-on-equip epics… stuff like that.
Of the original 1600 gold I invested 300 in items. And that got the ball rolling. Since then I’ve made about 100 gold each day I’ve traded the auction house, on average. I know you can make more, but 100 gold per day adds up to 10 000 if you just keep doing it. And it doesn’t take long, either. Maybe 20-30 minutes per day.
Best part: You can do it at ANY level. Level 1, 4, 20, 70, whatever. Of course, it gets better the lower level you are. A high level character can earn a lot of gold from questing and grinding, but a lowbie can’t. So it’s the ideal way to make tons of gold when you’re starting out.
Where did I learn all the ins and outs of AH trading?
Originally from the Cash Creating Guide. But the same information is available in Valkor’s Gold Making Guide and Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide. I don’t recommend the last one anymore, since there have been some problems with it. Valkor’s guide is probably the best choice for most players.
The thing that really made a difference though was seeing how much gold can be made this way. It made me go outside my comfort zone and experiment. Sometimes I lost, but most of the time I earned huge piles of gold.
I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with it, but I plan on dressing up like Santa and giving away gift-wrapped items for a total of 2000 gold on Christmas to random people on the server. Someone did that last year on another server I’m on, and I still remember it.
Now it’s your turn!
How would having 10 000 gold, or even 1 000 or 100 (which is damn easy to get this way) change your life? Never worry about where the money for your mounts is gonna come from… make a twink in the baddest gear and own the battlegrounds… buy those nice blue items from the auction house and enjoy getting inspected and complimented for your gear.
Remember, you can learn to do this from the Cash Creating Guide or Valkor’s Gold Making Guide.
Good luck.
PS. Here’s how it looks:

I wish I had as much luck in the AH as you. I’ve tried several different guides and they just don’t seem to work for me…

OMG man… This is rly setting my eyes ablaze.. After i got my druid up to lvl 40 (which took some time…) i was broke… I think i’m going to buy valkors gold making guide or The cash creating guide… having a twink, a near top notch hunter and couple of mids takes out the last of my reserves…

It was neat to see that much gold, and I would say that it is possible to make gold this way, but I play the game for the game play and not to sit at the auction house scanning.
I have tried it, and it is possible. Having 1700 gold to start with is helpful for sure. I went from 12 gold to 100 gold in a couple weeks just using the Auctioneer plug-in, so going 10 fold is not unbelievable, but hats off to you if you play Santa Clause for sure.

Ditto on Derek. He doesn’t give you any updates or respond to emails. His gold making guide is just a money making scam.

Sure is cool you have gotten so high. myself i have tried it when i rerolled shattered halls. i have not been so active yet at the auction house, but at lvl 42 i have gotten myself 1k gold, which i more than happy to have at this point :D

I tried many ways to get gold for my epic flying mount with my paladin and the best way i think is farming at Elemental Plateu motes but not at evening because there are many farmers so its better to farm them at night. I made over 5000 gold in one week with 2hours farming per day. When i learned 300/300 riding i went to netherwing. There are also many daily q there where you can get gold.

I agree with the comments comparing Dereks versus Valkor’s. Valkors is far and away the better guide. I highly reccomend it to everyone

i bought derek’s gold guide too, probably the WORST investment i ever made as far as video games go. he never responds to your emails like he promises he will in the guide. also, i’ve never gotten 1 update the entire time that i’ve had it. if you want to save your money, i would recommend Valkor’s guide; it is filled with MUCH more FARMING info since the AH guide can LOSE you gold sometimes and not always make gold. one more thing, the AH guides are not very dependable due to the difference in economy on certain servers. lastly, blizzard IS banning accounts with lowbie characters with large masses of gold. for example, i had 1 of my accounts that had a lvl 1 human warrior in stormwind that i used for the AH + my sales, BANNED because of having 2k gold on such a low character. they WILL suspect you of gold selling and WILL take action against you. be warned and go with Valkor’s!!!!! you WILL NOT regret it!!

Well, I’m a level 70 balance druid and you’ll have to believe me when I say it’s not easy for me to farm. I did manage to farm 1k gold in a week though. Since this is probably the most gold I’ve ever had I’m a little hesitant to “spend money to make money” I’ve been told it works very well though.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I’m going to give ya’ll some tips and try to answer some questions.
First of all, auctioneer is available here: www.auctioneeraddon.com
If you’re not making money by scanning and searching, you’re probably buying the wrong items at the wrong price and putting them back at the wrong price too.
An important thing to look at is the vendor sell price in the auctioneer tooltip when mousing over an item. A 24 hour auction will cost 60% of the vendor sell price in deposit. A 1 gold sell price means 60 silver deposit.
Especially when starting out, try to focus on things that can make you a lot of gold, but has a low vendor sell price (and thus deposit). Some things that come to mind:
* Enchanting materials (no deposit)
* Food (I’ve made a lot on talbuk steak, spicy crawdad, golden fishsticks etc.)
* Low level ore and bars like silver bars, gold bars, and such.
* Twink items. Made tons of gold buying twink items for 10 gold and selling for 25. Low deposit allows you to re-list it many times.
* low level green gear, weapons and schematics and such. I make a lot of deals where I buy stuff for 10-50s and sell it for 1-3 gold.
* The new darkmoon faire cards if you’re more advanced.
* Big stacks of stuff that I split up. Recently purchased 20 primal shadow for 280 g and now selling them off for around 400 g.
You also have to be selling a lot of stuff at the same time (I often have 50-100 auctions going at the same time) and be willing to re-list most of it. I will usually sell stacks of only 1, 2 or 5 as not everyone needs 20 of an item.
Focus on obvious bargains in the categories above first. Then when you have made some gold, use that to trade more aggressively since you’re only risking your profits then. Remember that most of the time the money is made when you BUY. Buy low enough and you will almost be guaranteed a profit. Experiment and have fun with it!

Martin,I noticed you never touched the subject of blizzard banning Jay’s lower level toon with that much gold. I would personaly say Yes the actioneer works and works well if you are willing to sit at AH for a good 20-30 min waiting for things to scan. (side note run bottom scanner at the sametime to save time) Enchantrix, Auctioneer w/ bottome scanner are the best thing to have for making money, besides grinding your way to it.
Also if you are using a toon for your bank to help prevent the banning of the toon it helps if you level it once in a while to keep you off the blizzard raidar; send money to higher level toon, or split it up between different alts on the same server…

I actually made a post inquiring about getting banned for this on the forums:

You have to draw your own conclusions but I think I’m cool.

I don’t know which guide to choose. Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide seems like the best when I visited it but apparently there have been some problems with it? What kind of problems?
Comment by Aaron — November 1, 2007 @ 10:30 am
Derek isn’t answering emails from his customers reliably even though 1 on 1 coaching is a major part of his offer.

Good stuff Martin. Keep it up.

What server are you on plz tell
Comment by nufsa — November 14, 2007 @ 3:54 am
I definitely agree that you if you pick up a gold guide then you need to check out Valkor’s and stay away from Derek’s.
Martin, great job on “rocking” the AH. I see most comments that people leave are referring to being lucky to get this much gold. I think a lot of people just assume that working the AH is a breeze. Once you get the hang of it, it is. But like anything you really read to practice and familiar with the economics of your particular server.
