Reaching level 48 with Brian’s Alliance Guide

Tuesday,December 26th, 2006

I finally got some time to level my ally hunter the past few days after a two week break.

As you know, I’m following Brian Kopp’s Alliance Leveling Guide to a T. Everything has been going well except one part where he recommends you take a group to Uldaman and do some quests there, which he doesn’t specify exactly (unlike in the rest of the guide).

I was very skeptical about that, since instance runs often take a long time to organize, and often lead to wipes. But I wanted to do it for review purposes, so I thought I’d look up some quests and buy a boost through it. Bad thinking. I spent 40 g, which was almost all I had, on 2 level 60s clearing Uldaman for me. Little did I know the experience gained was going to be that bad with the lvl 60s in the party… I’ve actually never had anyone boost me before, but I guess it was a 40 g lesson. Oh well, at least I got a nice blue gun.

Anyhow, I did the quests, got half an experience bar from the run and the quests, and ended up grinding the rest of that level. You see, Brian, at one point, offers you the choice to either grind one level or do ulda. I’d actually choose grinding next time, because it’s surer XP. But it’s also less fun. So do as you wish, but don’t pay any lvl 60s to help you out…

Apart from that, the quests I’ve been sent on have been simple, fun, and rewarding (no underwater ones lately, thank god). The instructions are unbelievably accurate, and I almost didn’t have to look anything up on thottbot. There was one quest, though, that he forgot to mention you should accept, so I had to go back from Tanaris to Iron Forge, and it took 20 minutes extra with the help of the hearthstone. (I’ll be sending all the corrections to Brian so he can update the guide.)

3 days 20 hours to level 48… not half bad imo. If I can average 5 hours per level from this point on, then I’ll get to 60 in 6 days 8 hours… but I think that may be optimistic. Time will tell.

Oh, I had 1½ bar of rested XP too, since I hadn’t played for some time. So my time is slightly lower than it should be.

Last thing: Hunters are fun! And easy. I got the opportunity to gank a mage and a priest (separately of course) who were 2 levels above me today, even when they got the first blood. I also had my way with a rogue and a shaman.

Can’t wait to ding 60 and go to the BGs.
