39 dings with Brian’s Alliance Leveling Guide
Saturday,December 9th, 2006
Yep, that means I’m level 40 now.
Here’s a pic (click for bigger size):
I’ve covered a lot of ground since level 30. Brian sends you off on quests all over Azeroth, both in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdom. All quests have been quite simple, except "Sunken Treasure pt 1" and a few related underwater quests that had me dying once or twice. But with some help from thott it wasn’t really a problem.
Not only am I leveling up fast, but an added bonus from questing is all the reputation you get with various factions. For example, I am now friendly with booty bay and ratchet, and honored with Darnassus (which will give me a nice discount on the lvl 40 mount). Even if you return and do these quests at level 60 they never reward anywhere near as much rep as when you do them at a lower level.
There has also been time for skilling up first aid beyond 225. Regarding the other professions, Brian recommends you pick up skinning and mining which, I agree, are excellent choices for making cash to support your skills and your mount.
Unfortunately, I made an irreversible mistake early on when I forgot to buy a skinning knife and a mining pick. Then I went out to quest and missed the opportunity to skin and mine the low-level beasts and nodes, something that I never could make up for later. So my mining and skinning are still around 20 and I only got myself to blame.
I almost couldn’t afford the mount, but I saw it coming and created an "auction house alt" at level 30 or so. I put him in Iron Forge and started him off with 2 g and some loot from Idkfa. By using auctioneer I picked up [Dreadmist Belt] for 1 g 50 s and sold it for 5 g in the trade channel. Then I bought 6 [Heart of Fire] for 2 g total, and sold them at the AH for 12 g. I also made some cash selling various "limited supply items" that can be bought from vendors and usually resold for 2-3 times the purchase price.
When the patch came out, though, auctioneer (together with all other mods) broke down and hasn’t been fixed yet, so my chances of getting the mount suddenly looked bleak… when out of nowhere I got a lucky break today.
Still almost 20 g short for my mount, someone suddenly offered to sell a [Twilight Cultist Ring of Lordship] for only 50 s!!! (It’s used to summon lords in Silithus that require a raid to take down and drop nice epics. Currently, after the patch went live, none of the summoning rituals in Silithus have been working, so maybe that was why he sold it so cheaply?).
Anyway, I turned this ring around for 19 g (just what I needed) at the AH tonight, and now I’m gonna buy that mount.
Btw, I do recommend you create an AH alt to sell your stuff. It will save you /played time as well as real world time. Some may consider it unfair to support my main with gold earned from an alt, but it was just to make up for the skinning/mining blunder so I could afford my mount (promise). And I’m more impressed with the fact that a level 1 can earn 35 extra gold without ever leaving IF.
