Testing Brian Kopp’s Alliance Leveling Guide
Friday,November 3rd, 2006
I decided to roll a new character today; an alliance female night elf.
The reason is that I’ve been thinking, like many others, about The Burning Crusade and how it affects game play now. I mean, is there really any point in getting the latest and greatest gear, highest PvP rank, or even getting exalted with some more factions? Of course, if you enjoy doing those things more than anything else, keep doing them because wow is about having fun.
But if you feel that the time you put into those activities will be "wasted" when the expansion comes, you might want to level a new character so you "only" have to level it to 70 later. That gives you more options once BC comes out.
Personally, I like leveling all by itself, so I’m not as cold and calculating about "preparing for BC" as you might think.
Anyway.
I’ve never played a night elf or a hunter before, so it’s all new to me. With that in mind, I’m going to follow Brian Kopp’s 1-60 Alliance Leveling Guide and see how fast I can arrive at 60. Right now, I’m just level 8 and a third in 3 hours and 10 minutes. Setting up addons and configuring key bindings has taken some time, but I think it won’t matter in the end.
It’s obviously too early to give a full review of the guide, but I can tell you that everything has been accurate so far. It’s always been my bad when I thought something was wrong. You got coordinates for almost every place you should go, so it’s really just to follow the steps. Sometimes, though, it just says "turn in X quest", without further instructions. So you will either have to backtrack in the guide and see where you picked up that quest, or just follow the link to thottbot (every quest is linked to thott), and click the "map" link next to the NPC at whom the quest finishes. It’s done in a snap.
Here’s a pic of my progress so far:
"Idkfa" must be the least RPG related name ever, but I just got frustrated running out of alternatives. I tried "Purity", "Izzy", "Wildchild", and some names of Roman godesses. So now my character is named after a cheat code in Doom I & II: ID Kick Fu**ing Ass (ID, of course, refers to ID software).
I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

So what happened? How far have you got? Funny thing is I’m doing the exact same thin in my blog, because i couldnt find any reviews of the guide. Now here I find yours and not only that, but we both started doing it the same month…lol guess great minds think a like.

Hey Targoun,
I’ve had some hardware problems and have spent some time testing about 100 different addons, so I haven’t had too much time to play on my hunter. But I’ve started again today, and I’m level 20 now. So far, so good.
I think it’s going pretty smooth, but I sure won’t be breaking any speed records. I’ve already died too many times… Also, some quests where you have to find little things on the ground can be damn annoying and can really waste your time. I guess it’s like that for everyone first time through.
What I notice, though, is that I enjoy playing like this. It’s way more fun than just grinding.
Btw, I’m now using CT_mapmod available from www.ctmod.net to map out all the coordinates in advance. That helps a lot.
Good luck. C ya.
Martin

I know, I die way to much as well, I also notice that he sends me to quests that normally I wouldnt do at the level he says to do them. My soulution was to do westfall quests which he dosnt talk about first. Most of them are fast and easy, then I go to the dark shore quests. The extra levels seem to do the trick, but there are still a few that even with anther person helping seem to be immpossible at this level without a group. Absent minded prospecter being one of them.

Roflpop. Sorry but I don’t trust this. :D

What is there to not trust? I’ve backed everything up with screenshots. Do you mean it’s too slow? Because it sure ain’t too fast. My leveling times with Brian Kopp’s guide are very achievable.

Eh..this isn’t a scam? I’m a little wary to fork over 35 bucks to some guy over the internet who says that this guide actually exists and works.

That’s what my site is about though… since there ARE guides and authors that are scammers I review and recommend only the good ones.
And this one is great.
By the way, anything sold via Clickbank (like this guide) is usually very easy to get your money back for if the product doesn’t deliver on its promises. So you don’t have to be concerned in any way.

Nice one, yummys.
Blizzard have held some 1 hour leveling contests at various events, where you see who can get most XP in one hour. Here’s the result of one such race:
Leveling Contest
loboniga (9 Undead Rogue)
vap0r_275 (9 Undead Rogue)
Jhawk (9 Undead Warrior)
nystrom (9 Orc Shaman)
mikej.ortiz (9 Undead Rogue)
psylynt (9 Human Rogue)
Chacar (9 Human Rogue)
M4niAK (9 Troll Rogue)
Locudius (9 Troll Rogue)
mFizzle (9 Undead Rogue)
As you can see, rogues are very fast starters, and you might even win should you participate =) There are no hunters because they don’t have a pet until level 10 so they pretty much suck before that.
Keep it up and good luck with your rogue.

i started using the guide with my gnome mage finished with dun morogh and loch modan, now i have to go to the NE Elf area, i am not sure if it is a good idea Brian, If i go Westfall will it affect my lvling progress?
Comment by Scorp — July 5, 2007 @ 10:39 am
I would just follow the guide, because I think Brian has developed a very good questing route. I guess you can go to westfall if you want to, but it will probably affect your lvling, yes.

Hello to everyone and thanks to Brian a lot. Just downloaded the guide, it loos superb!!! But can u guys tell me the average played time to hit 70, i dont know because Brian says its just 5 days and others say its 8 days. My other point is that i have a lvl 70 already and i know about the quests, Brian mentions some quests that are really hard to solo, i dont know about a hunter, because as i know Brian played as a hunter. I couldnt solo some quests with my rogue, and i needed to do it in groups. I hope it will be easier with my Draenei Mage

Comment by adam — July 23, 2007 @ 11:05 pm
Adam,
I think it should work regardless of what language your game is in. The guide and quests will definitely be the same. As for the mod, I suggest you try installing it first:

TeddyBear,
Sorry for not replying sooner.
The average played time to 70 will depend a lot on your experience with the WoW, how hard you push yourself, and how much rested XP you use. It took me about 9 days with very little rested XP on a hunter (new class to me), but I pushed myself quite hard. With rested XP it can be done faster for sure.
